College Guidance at New Summit Academy
New Summit Academy has a dedicated certified college counselor, Martin Naffziger, M.Ed., who works with all students on the basics of applying to college and can be contracted to work individually with individual students needing more one-on-one guidance and support. Our students may enroll knowing exactly where they want to apply and what they wish to study. Others may arrive with very little idea about their interests and talents, much less how to apply them to college and a career. To address this, we have divided the process into phases which follow the most logical and practical approach to researching options and applying to appropriate colleges. Need Online College Guidance? |
NSA’s College Guidance program has also been designed to, when requested by parents, work collaboratively with students’ previous college counselors or educational consultants throughout the process. These professionals are often able to offer additional guidance by providing their perspectives and knowledge of specific colleges and universities. Outside college counselor or educational consultant input is especially useful during the creation and narrowing down of college lists, the writing and editing of essays, and the final considerations after college acceptances have been sent out, although their services can be integrated into any phase of the process at parents’ request.
It is vital that all parties involved – students, parents, teachers and counselors, educational consultants and case managers – strive to guide each student in identifying, applying to, and enrolling in a college or university where he will experience success. To this end, we must all commit to finding a balance that allows students to meet real-world deadlines yet respects their Personal Growth needs. While New Summit Academy will make every effort to support and guide each student in his quest to find the right college, the reality exists that some students may join NSA too late in the year or may not be ready for the pressures of college applications to enroll in the Fall after their High School graduation. In this case, New Summit will work with students and families to create alternative options leading to college application and acceptance.

What families are saying:
"The guidance, support, patience and humor you gave throughout the college process was superb and so appreciated. Two years ago, we weren’t too sure (our son) would even graduate high school, let alone have college in his future. And now, he’s not only got college ahead of him, but also such fine schools and opportunities! Thank you so much, Martin, for helping him rise to his potential, as well as teaching him about accountability, organization, curiosity and goals."
"A couple weeks ago, (our son) got his financial package from Santa Clara - they offered him $80K in merit monies. So, pat yourself on the back a little because he racked up over a quarter of a million in merit scholarships with your help! " "Thanks again for your help getting him into college. A year ago I never would have thought I would be here today!" |
"Thank you Martin, for all you are doing, and for keeping us in the loop- you are a rock star advisor!" "Thank you for all the guidance, help and time you gave (our son) throughout the college application process. Your expertise has been much appreciated and you certainly made our lives much easier! |
What graduates are saying:
"I just wanted to write to tell you how much I appreciate the time you devoted toward helping me and my family during my college process over a year ago. That was a stressful, exciting and crucial time in my life where you did an impeccable job of helping me stay organized, write concise essays, and choose a school where I can continue to be academically successful."
"Thanks for writing a letter of recommendation and helping me figure out this whole process, I really appreciate it. I'm stoked on this scholarship. 16,000 dollars will really help with paying for college, and I'm really excited to get started with that. And man, if there was one thing I was impressed with at NSA, it was your dedication to helping us with applications and essays and all that. The college prep course you ran was insanely helpful and made figuring all this out way easier, so thanks for that too. Anyways, thanks again for all the help and support. It means a lot to me. |
"Finished up all of my apps. I'd just like to say thank you for all your help academically at NSA and throughout this whole college application process. I didn't always appreciate it, but at the end of the day, you pushed me to succeed and I hope to carry on that academic success once I reach college. I wish you the best." "Just wanted to briefly check in and let you know that all the work you invested in the college process with me is paying off. I was a little wary to see how I would do, but now that I am sitting here in my dorm with everything falling into place, I feel GREAT!" |
"I tell people to this day I wouldn't be going to college without your help! So thanks again Martin!!!! You're the man!"
