NSA PETS
Our DogsEstrella moved in around 2018 to join our four legged posse, and her cute underbite wins everyone over. She's definitely the feistiest of all of our pups, and she hasn't fully committed to NSA either! When her favorite staff (Diana or Catalina) are not around, we might find her roaming the streets outside, looking for new doggie friends... until it's time for dinner and curling up in her doggie bed. :)
RositaRosita joined our crew after the pandemic. She is a sweetheart, but also a sleepheart because she ends up sleeping most of the day so she can run around at night and keep campus safe.

Our CatsSuede was the first cat adopted in 2018. She moved in to the roof of the dorms and students immediately started feeding her. She is now the most spoiled, most loved cat on campus. She enjoys her "queen cat" status and will let anyone and everyone pet her. She's considering weight watchers to lower her belly... nah, just kidding. She'll keep luxuriating in her voluptuous surroundings without worrying. We love her no matter what!
2018 brought another roof-dwelling cat to campus - named OwCat because she used to howl in the middle of the night and drive our students nuts. At first, students begged us to get rid of her, but quickly they fell in love with her mangled ear and her "cat talk." Ezra honored her with a painted mural on a dorm, and she found a special friend in Thomas who consistently let her into his dorm to sleep on his bed! Now her favorite is Luis!
MamaCat is the smallest (and wildest) cat of all. In 2018, she heard the neighborhood buzz about NSA letting wild cats come live on campus. So, she brought her pregnant belly to campus and gave birth to her 4 kittens in a tire. She nursed them to health and watched as NSA staff gave her kittens homes. She decided to stay at NSA herself and enjoys climbing through rafters and trees to chase birds and mice.

And... Rest In Peace, our dear pets who blessed us with their presence...
Luna Laika (2017?-2021)Luna joined our family on October 4, 2019. After Spy's passing, the students begged for a "new puppy." But knowing how a new puppy with 32 "masters" would turn out, we decided to contact our local adoption rescue foundation and ask for an already-grown (enough) good-sized dog (to hold her own with rough housing boys!) who was social, friendly, and needed a good home. Our "dog committee" went to meet her, and they fell in love. She has lots of licks and lots of energy!

Shakira was adopted as a puppy in April 2007 by Quincho, an NSA student at the time. After being spoiled into misbehavior, Shakira attended her own therapeutic doggie boarding school and came back with better behavior and a purpose - to guard and protect NSA students (probably inspired by her German Shepherd roots); she could be found wherever the largest group of students was convened. There was no one more depressed during Aventura weeks when students were not on campus. She jumped excitedly and licked lots of toes upon the students' return. In her free time, she loved barking at squirrels, possums, and monkeys. She lived her life with a focused purpose and she excelled with love and loyalty. She will continue to guard campus from her central burial spot surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants.

Chicha was born around 2006 and lived the first few years of her life as wild woman on a coffee plantation, raising her kids and surviving. Once rescued, she was brought to NSA by Dr. Kogel's connections and has enjoyed her early retirement, being fed and spoiled at NSA. Everyone loved her stoic presence as she meandered around campus, nudging you to pet her before flopping on the floor for a nap. Her fierce loyalty to Luis and Heather was admirable (and scary at times), and her strong tail wagging made you wonder how her tail could speak so loudly of joy and contentment while her expressions remained consistently bored. Chicha rests in peace on campus caring for the wild river jungle that she so loved.
