NSA Scholarships

NSA gives between $50,000-$150,000 a year in aid to families in need. We believe in our mission and want to be able to offer our services to a broad range of applicants to increase access to services and continue our commitment to diversity on our campus and in our communities. Any contribution can help us achieve that goal through scholarships for both our virtual program and our on campus Costa Rica program.

Hogar de Vida
(Homes of Life)

Since July 2013, NSA students and staff have enjoyed a supportive service relationship with this children's home in Costa Rica.

Our time volunteering is mutually beneficial for the positive growth we get from giving to these precious children who are in foster care and will either be adopted or returned to their families once deemed appropriate.

Financial support is always needed, so feel free to donate here.
Or click on the buttons below in our Previous Fundraisers section.

NSA  Alumni Support Network

In January 2017, NSA launched its alumni support network to help alumni stay connected with peers with whom they could communicate and socialize at the deeper levels to which they were accustomed at NSA. We also hope to organize reunions, social events, and mentoring.

Usiko
South Africa

Usiko is a nonprofit based in Jamestown, South Africa. It is the host of our Sibanye program that has been touching the lives of our students and families since 2016.

Usiko has recently come upon funding challenges due to government and private funds being reallocated to other initiatives. Usiko is seeking funding sources and programming changes for sustainability but needs some immediate funding to remain in operation.

You can donate through the Local Development Catalyst Network and earmark the funds for USIKO to aid in this important global initiative.

PREVIOUS FUNDRAISERS

Holiday Cheer Needed by Hogar de Vida!!     You helped us raise over $20,000!

It broke our hearts to hear that our beloved Hogar de Vida is facing some big problems and has a big ask. Message from Hogar de Vida: Since 2014 in the child-focused culture of Costa Rica, PANI (Costa Rica's child protective services) has from time-to-time issued new requirements for increased staffing of the children's home. In May, another quite large increase was announced. While well-meaning, this increase was particularly difficult to meet, especially under threat of having the operating permit revoked. At about the same time, the Costa Rican government and department of labor issued new labor laws and regulations affecting pay and labor practices across the entire country. To make matters even worse, PANI announced in the fall that the annual Christmas grant to children's homes, usually $25,000 - $35,000 would not be paid this year. Without intervention, the collective cost to Homes of Life would be a devastating increase in expenses amounting to many thousands of dollars per month, not including the loss of the one-time Christmas grant.

The Need: After the above changes have been implemented, the estimated financial shortfall is $3,500 - $4,000 per month, and one-time costs of $14,000 for mandated severance pay and $15,000 to replace half of the annual Christmas grant.

NSA has committed to matching donations raised by our friends and families up to $10,000 to help make a $20,000 total donation to Hogar de Vida. If the response is overwhelming, we'll take the raised amount back to the board to ask for more.

Please follow our progress here since we're not using an online platform so that we (and Hogar de Vida) do not lose the 3% or more that is lost in using online platforms. We will update this visual every 1-2 days until we have met our goal - please join us in helping out!!
